love cirque du soleil beatlesLOVE, Cirque du Soleil is an extraordinary show that pays tribute to the legendary rock group, “The Beatles”.  The combination between the historical storyline, legendary music, and spectacular theatrics creates a show like no other.  Las Vegas has many remarkable shows to offer, and LOVE is no exception!

History of LOVE
Opening its doors in 2006 was not the “beginning” of LOVE, Cirque du Soleil.  The “beginning” began in the year 2000, when George Harrison and friend, Guy Laliberte started a discussion that became a huge successful production.  After three years of negotiations between surviving member of “The Beatles” Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as the Beatles widows: Olivia Harrison for George Harrison and Yoko Ono for John Lennon, Apple Corps Ltd. and the MGM Mirage, there was finally an agreement produced.

Many were involved in making this spectacular production a reality, including the person who wrote and directed LOVE, Dominic Champagne, as well as music directors, Sir George Martin (producer of almost all The Beatles’ records) along with his son, record producer, Giles Martin.

Path to the Opening of LOVE
Tickets first went on sale on April 19, 2006.  There were preview performances done from June 2 to June 29.  Changes were made according to the reaction of the audience.  During the preview performances of June 16 and June 17, McCartney himself attended and made some changes, as well!

Grand Opening of LOVE on June 30, 2006
What made the opening even more special?  The fact that many family members of The Beatles were in attendance, which included:  McCartney, Starr, Ono, Cynthia Lennon, Julian Lennon, Olivia Harrison, Dhani Harrison and Sir George Martin.  For those who attended the grand opening of LOVE, there was an even sweeter surprise.  McCartney, Starr, Harrison, Ono, and Martin made their way to the stage after the show was over.  The crowd went wild.  McCartney asked for an extra cheer from the crowd “for John and George”.

LOVE, Cirque du Soleil – What is all the Hype About
The hype stems from this amazing storyline, combined with legendary music and energetic theatrics to create a spectacular show of the legacy of “The Beatles”.  It traces “The Beatles” life from “The Blitz”, through the rock group’s creation and upward climb to success, to their psychedelic and spiritual era to their break up in 1970.   The grand finale includes the show itself, as the band reunites to share their story.

The show features pre-recorded songs from “The Beatles”, which is not like any other Cirque production that offers live music.  Samples of 130 songs were re-orchestrated to create 26 musical pieces to compliment the energetic dance, acrobatics, visual and theatrical effects, which are enhanced by the customized theatre built specifically for this production.  The Mirage in Las Vegas is dedicated to the LOVE, Cirque du Soleil.  The Mirage, created by French designer Jean Rabasse, holds 6,341 speakers that surround 2,013 seats.  Each seat has three speakers.  Stage includes nine lifts and eight automated tracks and trolleys.   There are video images on two walls.  Total cost of The Mirage was more than $100 million dollars.  Well worth the expense for a show you will remember forever!
